Conservator’s Trail - Bundaleer Forest

Distance: 4.6km (return) moderate difficulty

Duration: 1.5 Hours

Climb high above the picnic grounds and take in the history and scenic views of this walking trail.

The conservators trail can be accessed from the arboretum on Neindorf Road or 150m from the picnic grounds on Springs Road, Bundaleer North surrounded by a beautiful plantation of native gums and species.

The trail passes the restored Bundaleer Cottage and stables, old nursery beds and the Conservators Hut. This is where the early forest conservators would stay. The Conservators Hut was built in 1890 and can still be booked to stay today.

The forest temple of the Sun lookout located along an 1800’s stone wall features views over Bundaleer Valley to Jamestown.

The Bundaleer Forest Community Areas Association (BFCAA Inc) now manages the picnic grounds and recreation trails around the Bundaleer Picnic Ground after the 2013-2014 bushfires deemed some of the plantation forests not commerciallly viable. In early 2020 they opened a new playground at the picnic grounds, and a new function centre is expected to open in late 2020.

Some trail markers along the trail are old and deteriorated, however the trail is easy enough to follow as it is along forest trails.

The trail is suitable for walkers, dog walkers and mountain bike users.
